The Greco company started building guitars in Japan in 1960. Japanese concert tours in the 1960s by bands like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin created a ravenous demand for affordable Fender and Gibson-styled guitars amongst the young Japanese fans. Greco stepped up to fill that demand, and made more high quality "lawsuit" copies of the major guitar brands' designs than all other Japanese guitar companies combined. And while no legal action was taken against Greco for these guitars, Gibson did commission the same factory to make their "Orville" line of instruments which were exclusively sold within Japan!
