SeventySeven Guitars Exrubato-STD-S JT OAG ES-335 Old American Gold P90s

The SeventySeven Exrubato-STD/S-JT OAG is a distinctive P-90-equipped semi-hollow from Deviser's highly regarded SeventySeven brand. Part of the Japan Tune-Up series, each instrument receives detailed final setup work in Japan, including careful action adjustment and fret-edge finishing to deliver excellent playability straight from the factory.

This particular Old American Gold (OAG) version was produced as a limited spot-production model. Rather than a conventional bright metallic gold, the finish was inspired by the subdued colours of vintage American automobiles, resulting in a pale, slightly aged-looking gold that suits the classic semi-hollow design beautifully.

Construction centres around a laminated plain maple body paired with a maple neck and ovangkol fingerboard. The familiar 628mm / 24.75" scale is complemented by a slim C-shaped neck profile and 305mm radius, giving the Exrubato an easy, contemporary feel while retaining the character of a traditional ES-style instrument.

Where the STD/S really distinguishes itself is its pair of SeventySeven AL5S dog-ear P-90 pickups. Built around Alnico 5 magnets, these deliver the warmth and body associated with a P-90 while retaining plenty of attack and clarity. There's more openness and bite than a conventional humbucker-equipped semi-hollow, making the guitar particularly responsive to picking dynamics and changes at the volume controls.

Vintage-inspired appointments include an ABR-1 style bridge, bone nut and Kluson tuners. Combined with the P-90s and unusual Old American Gold finish, the result is a semi-hollow that feels traditional without simply being another recreation of a familiar vintage model.

This example remains almost like new and completely original, presenting beautifully with minimal evidence of use.
