The Crews Maniac Sound KTR-02 JR is a rare Junior-style model from the highly respected Japanese brand Crews Maniac Sound. Known for their boutique-level craftsmanship and careful material selection, Crews guitars are typically produced in relatively small numbers for the Japanese domestic market, making certain models—like this one—particularly difficult to find outside Japan.

Built around the straightforward Les Paul Junior concept, the guitar focuses on simplicity and strong fundamental tone. The single-pickup layout keeps the signal path direct and responsive, while the solid body construction delivers punchy mids, fast attack, and excellent sustain.

This example has been fitted with a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB in the bridge position, a well-known high-output humbucker that adds strong upper-mid presence and tight low-end response. The result is a Junior-style platform that moves easily from articulate clean tones to aggressive rock and modern high-gain sounds.

The guitar has also received Gotoh locking tuners, improving tuning stability and making string changes quick and reliable.

Cosmetically, the instrument features a relic-style grey lacquer finish. The aging appears to have been carried out by a previous owner rather than the factory, giving the guitar a worn, matte character where the original gloss finish has been lightly abraded in places and covered in a nice nitro lacquer clear coat. While not a traditional factory relic treatment, it contributes to the guitar’s distinctive aesthetic and unique character.

A very uncommon Crews Maniac Sound Junior-style instrument—simple, expressive, and clearly built with performance in mind.

Visual Condition:
Refinished and relic-treated by a previous owner. The finish shows visible sanding marks and wear across the body, giving it a worn matte appearance. Tuners have been replaced and old vintage style tuner screw holes filled in. Please refer to photos for detailed condition.
