The E-EX is Edwards’ interpretation of the mid-’70s Explorer platform—bold in outline, but executed with the precision and consistency typical of Edwards’ Japanese production. Built in 2014, this example pairs classic Explorer proportions with refined construction and modern reliability.

A solid mahogany body and mahogany neck deliver the dense midrange and extended sustain expected from this design. The slim taper neck profile keeps the feel fast and manageable despite the guitar’s larger footprint, while long tenon construction enhances resonance and structural stability.

Finished in Ebony with gold hardware, the aesthetic is understated but assertive—clean lines, strong contrast, and no unnecessary ornamentation.

Electronics are handled by a classic Seymour Duncan pairing: SH-1 ’59 (neck) and SH-4 JB (bridge). The ’59 provides clarity and warmth with excellent note separation, while the JB adds focused mids and articulate gain response. Together they cover everything from vintage-leaning cleans to tight, aggressive overdrive, with strong upper-mid presence reminiscent of late-’70s humbucker voicing.
